Who we are
GearCrafted is an independent review site run by a small team of working professionals — software engineers, product managers, and technical writers — who use AI productivity tools every day as part of our actual jobs.
We started this site because we were tired of two things: listicles that ranked the same five tools without ever saying why, and review sites that were obviously written by people who had never opened the product.
What we do
Every tool we review goes through the same four-step protocol before we publish anything:
- 30 days of real use. We pay for the tool ourselves (or use the free tier honestly) and run it through daily workflows for at least a month.
- Side-by-side benchmarks. Where a category has meaningful competition, we run identical tasks across two or three leading options and compare outputs.
- Transparent pricing analysis. We look at what you'll actually pay after a year of normal use, including add-ons, seat fees, and usage caps.
- A clear verdict. We end every review with a Buy / Wait / Skip recommendation — and we tell you what we'd do with our own money.
What we won't do
- We don't accept payment in exchange for positive coverage. Ever.
- We don't write reviews of tools we haven't personally used.
- We don't update a review without re-testing. Every "Updated" date on a review means we went back and used the product again.
- We don't pretend AI tools are magic. If a feature is overhyped, we say so.
How we're funded
This site is reader-supported through affiliate links. When you click a link to a product and end up purchasing, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This never affects our verdicts — we always tell you what we'd pay for ourselves. Read the full affiliate disclosure.
Who this site is for
GearCrafted is written for tech-savvy professionals — engineers, designers, founders, researchers, and writers — who use AI tools to do real work and don't have time for marketing fluff. If that sounds like you, welcome.
